What is a Baffle?
Just like in any mixing system, agitators tend to form a vortex in the center of a reactor which may reduce the mixing efficiency, to fix this a panel placed at a certain angle in the vessel breaks the formed vortex and a better agitation is achieved.
What other uses does a baffle provides?
Not only does a baffle helps you achieve better mixing, but other purposes of a baffle may also be:
- Temperature sensor (a sensor can be attached to the end of the baffle so you can have a better reading at the core of the mixing process)
- Flow diversion (depending on the angle of the panel a baffle may direct the flow of the agitator either towards the wall or center of the vessel)
